Washington, DC – Today Congressman Todd Akin issued the statement regarding the breach of the Pin Oak Levee:
"Getting the President’s disaster declaration was the first step.
"Today, I contacted FEMA Administer, David Paulison, to request that FEMA send field representatives to Lincoln County to immediately begin assessing damage in order to start assisting individuals.
"I have also been in contact with Local Small Business Administration officials in anticipation that their help will be needed with local businesses.
"My office has been in contact with local officials to ensure that local needs are being addressed during these difficult times.
"As we go forward in addressing the substantial damage during this historic flooding, I extend my sympathy to the families who have been displaced. I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to volunteers, National Guard and local emergency management teams including the Army Corps of Engineers for their commitment and hard work in attempting to save lives and property."
