Akin Votes against Bloated Spending Bill

1000 page bill dropped at midnight voted upon without proper review

Washington, DC – Congressman Todd Akin, (R-Mo) voted today against the huge democrat spending bill that was dropped around midnight and voted upon without time for proper review by Congress or the American people.

Akin released the following statement regarding the nearly trillion dollar spending bill,

"This huge spending bill, which threatens our nation’s financial viability by strapping future generation of Americans with historic debt, was not allowed proper time for review by members of Congress and the American public.

"President Obama ran on the promise of transparency and openness in Washington. But dropping a thousand page spending bill on the American people in the middle of the night and voting on it the next morning, flies in the face of the rhetoric of reform.

"Watching this wasteful, spending bill come closer to passage is like watching a financial Hurricane Katrina head toward our shores. To get some perspective on how expensive it will be, consider that the Department of Defense has only eleven aircraft carriers in our entire fleet, and they are the greatest single expenditure in our defense budget. The annual debt service alone on this spending package would pay for about eight such aircraft carriers.

"This bill is a shameful squandering of our nation’s resources."
